Mount Lawley Lawn Bowling Club Achieves Gender Equality Milestone in WA Bowls Competition. On Saturday, November 30, 2024, Mount Lawley Lawn Bowling Club made history by fielding a team, against Yokine, for the Western Australian bowls competition that was equally composed of men and women. For the first time, the Club’s 3rd Division team consisted of eight women and eight men, selected purely on merit, in line with Bowls WA's new edict for open-gender competition on Saturdays. This achievement marks a major milestone for the Club, demonstrating its commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity. The decision to select players based on their skill, rather than gender, reflects the Club's dedication to fair and equal representation. The balanced team composition highlights the growing movement within the sport to break down traditional gender barriers and promote equality at all levels of competition. For Mount Lawley, this event represents a proud moment in its history. It reinforces the idea that talent and performance should be the primary criteria for selection, regardless of gender.
